Forever Labradors

Labradors are a firm Forever Puppy family favourite.

Labradors (labs for short) tend to have a good temperament and are friendly, active, and often quite intelligent.

Originally bred to be a sporting breed, they have a long history as a working companion in modern homes. It’s not hard to see why this breed has earned ‘The Most Popular Family Dog’ title in America for several years running.

It’s important to start socializing young pups as soon as possible to ensure they are well adapted. Otherwise, it can lead to your furry friend being quite nervous.

Fun facts about Labs

  • It's hard to believe, but the family favourite breed nearly went extinct in the 1800's due a dog tax enforced.
  • Labradors have been bred to be water loving dogs. They even have webbed feet to make swimming easier!
  • Black, Chocolate and Yellow labs can all exist in the same litter - regardless of parent colours.
  • They make perfect working dogs. Labs are favoured frequently for becoming guide dogs or search-and-rescue dogs.
  • A recent discovery has suggested that their exceptional sniffing skills can be used to detect illness in the human body (including cancer).

Grooming

One of the best ways that a pet owner can help bond with their pet is through grooming. Labradors are notorious shedders, so you’ll need a great vacuum cleaner, the right brushes, and a good regular cleaning routine to stay on top of it!

There are 3 main colours of Labradors: chocolate, yellow and black. However, other shades (such as silver) are gaining popularity for their distinctive looks.

Health

Labradors tend to be quite a healthy breed – however they are more likely to suffer from certain things than other breeds. Such as cataracts and obesity.

Fortunately, many of the conditions they are prone to can be avoided or the risks reduced through good health testing of breeding pairs, a healthy balanced diet and regular exercise.
